Letterkenny parade was best in recent years

IT WAS a St Patrick's Day marked by many anniversary celebrations as businesses and community groups turned out in force for the parade in Letterkenny on Wednesday.
Over 60 floats, as well as individual groups, took part in the parade which was led by St Eunan's GAA, marking a big year for the club as it celebrates its 80th anniversary.

Drumkeen school ransacked
THE culprits who broke into and ransacked St Patrick's National School in Drumkeen last weekend 'took from the local people' the outraged school principal said.
Mr Colm Breathnach arrived at the school as normal at 8.30 on Monday and was horrified to discover that two of the school's classrooms and two offices had been ransacked. Paints were spilled and containers broken as items were scattered throughout all of the rooms

Waiting list cut
LGH waiting times down 97 per cent

WAITING lists for in-patient and day case procedures in Letterkenny General Hospital have improved dramatically over the last two years.
Figures released this week show that the number of patients on the waiting list over 12 months in LGH has reduced by 97 per cent.

Modified car caused friend's death
AN inquest jury has called on the Road Safety Authority (RSA) to educate young drivers on the dangers of modifying cars following the death of a Dunfanaghy teenager three years ago.
Thursday's sitting of Letterkenny Coroner's Court heard that a young man's "home-made" modifications to his car resulted in the death of his 19 years old friend.

Red letter day for Dungloe community childcare

THE first sod was turned on Friday for Dungloe's new ¤1.3 million childcare facility, Ionad Curam Paisti.
MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher and Susie McDevitt who initiated the campaign for the new facility, jointly turned the first sod at the site on Carnmore Road.
Ionad Curam Paisti will be located beside the Parochial Hall which has been used as the community playschool for the past 30 years.

Mobile phone drivers targeted

A Garda Traffic Inspector has said many drivers in Donegal appear to be 'ignoring' the ban on using the mobile phone while driving.
Speaking at the launch of Donegal Road Safety Working Group's new campaign to tackle this increasingly growing problem, Inspector Michael Harrison said road users regarded this as a 'minor' offence, but it was an offence that was totally geared towards road safety.

County Council rejects offer of E250,000 for Stranorlar site
DONEGAL County Council has declined an offer of ¤E50,000 for the former Stranorlar Fire Station and decided to offer it for sale at public auction instead.
Councillors in the Stranorlar Electoral Area (SEA) were informed the offer was received for the quarter acre plot with building on Main Street.
The old station was vacated last year following the opening of the new station at The Glebe, Stranorlar.
