Residents of a Letterkenny area claim they are being "terrorised" by boy racers outside their homes at night.
Residents in Sylvan Park are adopting a zero tolerance policy to boy racers following several late night incidents in the area where they were disturbed by anti-social behaviour.
The no-nonsense approach follows two separate arrests by Gardai in which several boy racers were found to be causing havoc in the area. In one recent incident, a man was arrested at 10am after keeping residents awake from 4am to 8am. Two houses in the estate are believed to be occupied by groups of young men, and since this incident, one landlord has taken measures and evicted his tenants.
One angry Sylvan Park resident said people in the area were being "terrorised" by the anti-social behaviour of some boy racers.
"In terms of Sylvan Park the residents now have a zero tolerance policy for any boy racer behaviour. Any speeding or noise is being reported to gardai and being followed up by residents, statements are being made and we are hoping prosecutions will ensue. The residents aren't going to be intimidated by this kind of behaviour, it will be recorded on a digital camera or videoed and the information will be passed onto gardai."
Since one of the incidents, a landlord has evicted a house of unruly tenants.
"The landlords are good in relation to this type of behaviour and if they are discovering that tenants are causing anti-social behaviour the landlords are tending to ask them to stop or to leave, which is what has happened in a few cases."
Meanwhile in Letterkenny, fed-up residents living near Milan nightclub are being forced to move from their homes. They claim the noise from boy racers means they can no longer get a proper night's sleep.
