There is good news for single women in Donegal as the latest census reveals there are currently 41,638 single men in the county in relation to 36,163 single females.
Out of Donegal's total population of 147,264 people, 57,159 of these are married. For 55,814 of these, this is their first marriage, while 365 have remarried following widowhood and 980 have remarried following the dissolution of their first marriage.
The Census figures revealed last week show that divorce in the County is at an all-time high, with 1885 people listed as divorced. This is in keeping with the national figures which show that divorce increased by 70 per cent between 2002 and 2006. This is largely due to the legalisation of divorce in the State in 1997.
