CONCERN has been expressed in Convoy this week after the old Social Hall in the centre of the town was demolished in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Also known as the Music Hall, the community building was razed to the ground by a digger.
The hall was legally owned by the Convoy Community Association, however, it is understood that it was recently sold to a local developer for in the region of 350,000 euro.
One local man, who was involved in the purchase of the hall 20 years ago, expressed annoyance that it had been sold and demolished without the consent of the community.
Mr Alfie Bates said that the hall was bought following a cross community fund-raising campaign in the area.
"I am not happy about this at all. We went to a lot of bother to raise money to buy the hall 20 years ago," he said.
