THIRTY seven years-old Independent candidate, Arthur McGuinness said he was 'deeply disappointed' with his performance.
The Moville man, who entered the race on the last day of nominations, polled just 86 votes said he 'couldn't believe the support for Deputy Cecilia Keaveney.
"I thought the people in Inishowen wanted somebody who would fight for jobs, health, and housing. Deputy Keaveney has done nothing for Moville yet the people still come out and support her again,"he said.
"I'm a decent man and I was expecting to poll around 1,000 votes in Inishowen area. I thought there was a void and a mood for change against the major parties but clearly people don't want that,"
He said he would take time to consider if he would ever run again in an election.
"I will think about it but the people seem to be happy with what they have in this area. Donegal and Inishowen isn't even mentioned in the National Development Plan. I was campaigning on issues like social housing and sewerage and water schemes in the Moville area but it wasn't to be," he added.
