FOUR MASTERS 0-10

MALIN 0-07

Four Masters returned to winning ways with a hard fought win over a strong Malin side in Pairc Thir Chonaill on Saturday evening. Played in tough conditions, with driving rain and strong winds a major factor, players on both sides done well to serve up a good game of football, with a blistering start by Four Masters proving to be the deciding factor.

An unfamiliar Four Masters half forward line containing Gareth Britton and Karl Lacey, proved to be a master stroke from manager Corny Carr, with Britton returning 0-04 and Lacey 0-02, all from play.

Four Masters were out of the blocks much quicker in this game, and raced into a four point lead with scores from Benny Byrne, Gareth Britton, Karl Lacey and a second for Britton.

Malin were struggling to come to terms with the movement of Lacey and Britton, but did begin to get a foothold on the game, and were duly rewarded with points from the impressive Anthony Kelly and Martin Lafferty.

Sean and Patrick Kelly were also beginning to win good possession at midfield, but points from Michael Doherty and Joel Carr left the Masters men ahead by 0-06 to 0-02 at the break.

Although Malin outscored Four Masters in the second half, they never recovered from the strong Four Masters opening quarter.

Sean and Anthony Kelly combined to score 3 points midway through the second half, but in between these scores, a Michael Doherty free, followed by one each from Britton and Lacey had maintained a comfortable lead for Four Masters.

A strong period for Malin did yield 2 further points from midfielder Patrick Kelly, but Gareth Britton brought proceedings to a close with a fourth individual score.

This was a good game of football, considering the conditions, and the experience of players like Karl Lacey, Barry Monaghan, Benny Byrne, and Barry Dunnion proved vital at key times.

Raymie McGroary and Danny McGarrigle, new additions to this Four Masters team, both had very sound games, with McGroary particularly impressive.

Malin had good performances from Charlie Byrne, Sean and Patrick Kelly, Anthony Kelly and Martin Lafferty.

Corny Carr and his management team can be happy with the contributions of Don Monaghan, Shane Carr, Karl Lacey and match winner Gareth Britton with his four points from play.

Four Masters – M Cassidy, P McGlynn, D Monaghan, E Bonner, R McGroary, B Monaghan, B Dunnion, S Carr, N Cassidy, D McGarrigle, K Lacey, G Britton, J Carr, B Byrne, M Doherty. Subs, R O'Donnell for N Cassidy (injured)
