As the Polish community in Letterkenny continues to expand on an ever-increasing basis, local community facilities are also adapting to support this increase.
To this end, Polish people attending mass in St Eunan's Cathedral are now being provided with a weekly newsletter in their native language. Speaking to the Donegal News this week Diocesan Administrator Father Eamonn Kelly explained: "Bearing in mind that ten years ago we had no Polish people in the congregation we now have a number, I couldn't quite tell you how many."
Every second Thursday of each month a Polish Mass is also celebrated in the Cathedral, Fr Kelly explained: "We have a priest from Sligo who visits every month to say Mass in Polish. He also says one in Ballybofey and travels around to different locations."
"We have also introduced a translation of the weekly Newsletter in Polish, this is provided by the Polish Chaplaincy. We get fifty printed every week. We are often asked to perform Baptisms for Polish people and we have already done a number of them. In fact earlier this year we also had a wedding in Polish. And although it takes some extra organising it can be done."
