THE new one million euro Dungloe fire station was officially opened on Monday by Minister of State for Transport, Pat the Cope Gallagher.
Minister Gallagher approved this new station in 2004 during his tenure as Minister of State in the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Speaking at the opening, he said: "It is just over a year ago that we turned the sod on this fine project and I am delighted to be here at the opening, considering my own personal involvement in the project from its inception."
He also congratulated Paddy McHugh Contractors, Portnoo, whom he said, did a fine job in completing this project to such a high standard.
"The provision of this new modern fire station in Dungloe ensures that our fire fighters have all the necessary facilities required by today's fire brigade standards. Donegal has made great strides over recent years in the provision of modern fire fighting services and I will continue my efforts to ensure that other stations in my constituency also receive the funding necessary to provide world-class services," the Minister said.
"I would also particularly like to pay tribute to Donegal County Council who have worked tirelessly towards the construction of new fire stations and appliances, including a custom built unit for Arranmore Island. Tenders will shortly be submitted to the Department of the Environment for the construction of the new station in Gweedore and I am confident that a contractor will be appointed shortly. I will continue to work with the council to maintain the effort dedicated to boosting fire safety throughout Donegal."
