Funeral takes place of Gweedore roadside victim


THE Health and Safety Authority and local gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding death of a Gweedore man after attending his daughter's wedding. Donegal County Council did not respond to queries in relation to the accident.

Padraig McBride, who was in his late sixties, was found dead near his home at Middletown, Derrybeg at around 4.50am on Sunday.He fell into a hole which was dug by County Council workmen at the side of the road.

Mr McBride had attended the wedding of his daughter Grace Anne who was married in Dunlewey on Saturday.

He was laid to rest on Wednesday in Magheragallon cemetery after funeral mass in St Mary's Church, Derrybeg.

Chief celebrant was local PP Fr Michael Gillespie and Mass was concelebrated by Fr James Gillespie CC Milford.

The Mass was also concelebrated by Fr Sean O'Gallachoir, Fr Donnchadh O'Baoill, Fr Padraig O'Baoill and Fr Brian O'Feirraigh.

A spokesman for Glenties Garda Station said they are treating the incident as a sudden death, the result of a tragic accident.

BUILDING CONTRACTOR

A well know building contractor, he was the son of the late Jimmy McBride who built the Ard Scoil Mhuire and the local theatre in Gweedore.

The late Mr McBride is survived by his wife Gracie, sons Michael and Pearse and daughters Fiona, Martina, Deirdre, Darina, Melissa and Grace Anne to whom sympathy is extended.
