A LETTERKENNY community group which has provided training for the long-term unemployed has expressed extreme concerns this week that they may be closed down due to lack of funding.
The Doorway Project, located on the Long Lane, has provided invaluable services not only to those wishing to further their education but to the local community in general for over seven years.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week, Project Director David Deery, said if funding was not sourced soon they would be forced to close.
"We had our Peace funding withdrawn 18 months ago because we did not meet their criteria and we have been working on a voluntary basis up to now," Mr Deery explained.
The Project runs two childcare facilities, however, they have lost their two FÁS employees which has also put the future of this service in doubt.
Mr Deery praised local publican, Brendan Dunnion of The Orchard, who invested ¤15,000 of his own money in to refurbish their Long Lane premises.
"It is unfortunate that we are without workers. Sorcha McElhinney, Project Manager, is working on a voluntary basis and so are our directors. The withdrawal of our workers has left us in turmoil.
