LIFFORD residents have been complaining of a foul smell arising from effluent being discharged into the river Foyle from a Donegal County Council pumping station.
Councillor Gerry Crawford has raised the concerns of local residents and businesses in the area.
He said the council owned pumping station on Bridge Street was the source of a foul smell which had plagued the businesses and residents in the area since the beginning of the summer.
Cllr Crawford said he had made inquiries from the Department of Water and Environment about the chalky coloured discharge into the Foyle. "I want to know what the function of the pumping station is and if this discharge into the Foyle is normal.
"I also want to know what the waste is being discharged into the river and who monitors effluent from the pumping station," said Cllr Crawford.
