BRIAN Friel's play about the Flight of the Earls 'Making History' opened in Charlesford, Kinsale last night before going on a tour of sites synonymous with the 1607 journey.

Theatre company Ouroboros, with the support of a number of government departments, will take the play to 22 venues around Ireland including the Rock of Cashel, the Hill of Tara, Donegal Castle and Rathmullan Fort before travelling to Belgium, Italy and France.

There will be two performances in Donegal Castle (O'Donnell's castle) on Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22.

The Rathmullan Fort performance, the leaving point for Flight of the Earls, takes place on Thursday, September 13.
