A man in his twenties from the Convoy area has been arrested following the ramming of a garda patrol car in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Two gardai, a male and female, escaped without injuries following the incident which happened at the 'Old Mill Road 'on the outskirts of Convoy at around 5am.
Inspector Pat O'Donnell said the two gardai were lucky to escape without injury.
"The gardai were responding to the suspicious activity of a vehicle in the Convoy area at 5 am. They approached a White Rover saloon but as they did so it subsequently rammed the garda patrol car from the side before making off in the direction of Stranorlar," he said.
"The garda patrol car was spun around on the road with the force of the impact but fortunately the two officers were not injured," he added.
Inspector O'Donnell said gardai came across the car again as part of a search for the vehicle in the Convoy area at around 11 am.
"The vehicle was travelling towards Stranorlar and gardai pursued it and the car subsequently got caught in traffic in Stranorlar.
"As the gardai went to arrest the driver he rammed another car belonging to a member of the public as he attempted to reverse his way out of the traffic. This vehicle was not seriously damaged and again the driver was not injured," he said.
Gardai arrested the young Convoy man and he was taken into custody at Letterkenny Garda Station where he is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The car was seized for technical and forensic examination,
"While assessment of the damage to the patrol car is continuing it would in excess of 1,000 euro," Inspector O'Donnell added.
