Navigational skills went awry

A 22-year-old Letterkenny-man whose "navigational skills went out the door" after he drank too much and couldn't find his way home has been given the benefit of the Probation Act by Judge Desmond Zaidan.

A recent sitting of Letterkenny District Court heard details of the charge against Lee Vambeck of 40 Beechwood Park. The court heard from Garda McKenna that on June 16 at 5.50am he received a call to go to Hazelwood Park where the defendant was standing in the doorway of a house and was very drunk and emotional.

Garda McKenna told the court that he offered the defendant a lift home but he wouldn't divulge which number house he lived at in Beechwood Park.

Solicitor, Mr Kieran Dillon explained that the issue on the night in question was the effect of alcohol on Vambeck who became lost on his way home and didn't know where he was.Mr Dillon added that his client suffers from depression and this was exacerbated by alcohol. He has since apologised to gardai for the inconvenience he caused them. Judge Zaidan ordered the defendant to contribute ¤500 to the Alan Doherty Foundation and a further ¤500 to Little Angels School.

Boots not made for walking

BOOTS chemist are planning to remain trading on Letterkenny's main street for the foreseeable future.

Boot's store Group Manager this week dismissed reports that the Pharmacy were planning to relocate to the retail park on the Harte road although he did not rule out any future moves.

"We are not currently engaged in moving at this time to the new centre but in regard to the future, I could not rule it in or rule it out either," he said.

Concerns have been raised by the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce and retailers on the main street about the relocation of businesses away from the traditional town centre.
