Home of Letterkenny retired woman is attacked again

THE home of a retired Letterkenny woman was attacked for the second time in less than a week.

Ms Katherine Boyce's home in Gartan Avenue came under a sustained egg attack by local youths in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

A distraught Ms Boyce went to spend a few days rest with her daughter in Dublin following last week's incident. However, when she returned home on Tuesday she discovered a nail embedded in the wheel of her car.

"It looks like my situation is not going to improve. I don't know what to do now," Ms Boyce said.

A distraught Ms Boyce told the Donegal News that the attack was the latest act of intimidation against her and has called on the youths' parents to put a stop to it. She also claimed they damaged her car, loosened the exhaust pipe and tampered with the brakes.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Age Action Ireland said young people should be "shown the consequences" of intimidating older people.

"There is a need for some intervention by community gardai and get young people together to be shown the consequences of what they have done and they also need to know how the older person feels as a result of their actions," the spokesman said.

"The ASBO's are controversial but there needs to be some mechanism to protect vulnerable older people. However, Age Action Ireland are not exactly sure what mechanism is best but older people have the right to feel safe in their own homes".

The spokesman concluded that young people should have more respect for the older people in their community.

A spokesman for Letterkenny Garda Station said they were investigating the matter and would continue to patrol the area.

Anyone with information should contact gardai on 91 22222.
