IT will be two months before the town bus is operational in Letterkenny.

The Mayor of Letterkenny Town Council said on Friday that she hopes the bus will be en route around September. Cllr. Jean Crossan acknowledged that the May start-date has long passed but the delays were caused because the bus operator was still fine tuning details.

"These thing take time. I was assured it was going to be May or at least before the end of May but there are still a few things to tie up. The bus operator wants the senior citizens to be able to use their bus passes and he was working on that," she said.

"All the route are in place, he had the bus in town one day about three weeks ago and he was timing from A to B. This will all be advertised for people who want to use it."

While the Mayor said the bus would be running within the next two months, she added that she expects the bus operator to make an official announcement soon.
