THE people of Donegal have been urged to ensure they have their name on the draft register of electors by Minister Mary Coughlan.
Confirmation that the deadline for the public to submit corrections to the draft Register of Electors is to be extended by two weeks has been welcomed by local T.D. and Minister for Agriculture and Food, Mary Coughlan. Her colleague, Minister Dick Roche, having taken into account requests from various local authorities, confirmed the extension of the deadline to 9 December.
"This will allow additional time for Donegal County Council to complete their work on the electoral register and give members of the public extra time to both check the register and return any necessary registration correction forms to the County Council", the Minister said.
"The process of renewing the Register of Electors this year has been the most intensive in memory, with an extensive publicity campaign and officials checking door to door. It is essential however that individuals now check that their name is on the new draft register. I have had reports of people who have, for whatever reason, found their name not to be on the newly published draft and are now submitting correction forms. I very much hope this extra two weeks will encourage more voters in the county to check the draft register. It may now be conveniently done at post offices, public libraries, Garda stations, courthouses, Donegal County Council offices or online at www.donegal.ie/ereg", she said.
