ANGLERS across Donegal are fuming over plans to close three of the county's premier salmon rivers due to dwindling stocks.
In a effort to conserve salmon stocks the Department of Marine has released draft regulations to close up to 32 rivers across the country including the lucrative rivers Lennon, Lackagh and Eske in Donegal.
The move will be opposed by up to 15,000 anglers who will be affected by the move which one angler predicted would have disastrous consequences for hotels, bed and breakfast and other accommodation providers. Speaking to the Donegal News, the Chairman of the Donegal Game Angling Federation warned it could take up to five years for the rivers to be re-opened.
Mr David McGill, who lives in Glen between Creeslough and Carrigart, confirmed that his members would be appealing the decision within the statutory thirty day period.
