A fund-raising campaign has been initiated to contribute to the substantial legal fees incurred by a group from Ramelton during their campaign to keep access to a picturesque waterway and mill open to the public.
The case came before Letterkenny District Court in March of this year when the so-called 'Ramelton Seven' appeared on charges of unlawful damage and the removal and theft of steel gates.
Ramelton-based Independent Councillor Ian McGarvey, was involved in the campaign and explained: "Our legal fees were 2,500 euro for the court case earlier this year. I paid these myself because I didn't want to see anyone out of pocket, but we are now continuing to fund-raise to assist with the legal fees," explained Cllr McGarvey.
He continued:" "Fund-raising is underway in Ramelton to challenge the closing off of rights the people have enjoyed for centuries."
The draw will take place at the Ramelton Senior Citizens Christmas party.
