GARDAI have confirmed that summonses have been served on five men from south Donegal in relation to alleged sex offences against a 13 year old girl.
The men face charges in relation to a series of sex assaults against the girl in 2003 and are to appear before Ballyshannon District Court on January 5.
It is believed that a diary kept by the girl, now 16, is an integral part of the investigation and that she made as many as 20 sex allegations against the men.
It is also understood that, following the issuing of the book of evidence, the case may be forwarded to the Circuit Court due to the severity of the charges.
The summonses were served on Monday morning after a complex two year investigation and up to 20 men where interviewed. A spokesperson for the garda Press Office would only confirm that summonses have been served and would not give anymore details.
There were also reports that the PSNI were carrying out a separate investigation in Northern Ireland in relation to allegations made by the girl about men from that jurisdiction.
