Campaign to bring Lifestart programme to Milford area

THIS week will see the launch of a new programme in Milford aimed at cementing the foundations of children's' early years.

The Lifestart programme has been running successfully in a number of areas in Donegal and now a concerted group of parents are hoping to expand the project into the Milford area.

Lifestart is an inclusive, free and home-based programme based around monthly visits by a trained Lifestart worker. According to Lisa Hone who is involved in bringing this programme to the area: "The early years in a child's life are crucial to their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development and set the foundations for a healthy journey into adulthood."

Aimed at children from birth to five years olds, Ms Hone explained: "These are also extremely challenging years for parents. The Lifestart Programme recognises the importance of the pre-school years and aims to support parents and carers in making them as positive as possible."

The campaign to bring Lifestart to Milford receives its official launch on Wednesday May 16th at 5.30pm in the Council Offices. The Campaign Group, Milford Lifestart Steering committee, has already had positive meetings with local politicians and Government Ministers, who according to Ms Hone "have all agreed it would be an excellent local resource."

However, no definite funding has been agreed for the project and the Steering Committee feel it is vital that they continue to lobby all relevant parties with the support of the local community to secure necessary finance.

To be part of the campaign or participate in the Lifestart Programme when it is up and running contact Lisa on 087 057 6687 or Fiona on 087 870 0682.
