ST Eunan's Leaving Cert students proved their mathmatical prowess on Saturday at the Hamilton Mathematics Institute competititon in Trinity College, Dublin.
Four students, Luke Kelly, Colm McCormick, Patrick Clear and Mark McGowan are the proud winners of a silver medal in the All-Ireland Maths competition.
WITS
The mathematics team pitted their wits and mathematical knowledge against 11 of the best teams from Colleges throughout Ireland in a tense final.
The St Eunan's boys had led the competition throughout only to be pipped at the post by Castleknock College who won Gold by a narrow one point margin.
St Eunan's won the Silver medal along with St Joseph's Galway. In the competition the students must complete two higher level Leaving Cert questions within six minutes. In the final round four higher level questions are set to be answered within six minutes.
250 TEAMS
The St Eunan's boys had won their way to the final after pitting their wits against 1000 students and 250 teams to lift the regional title. The competition was held by the Hamilton Mathematics Institute, renowned for its high mathematical standards, and sponsored by Citigroup Bank.
The students ability to compete at this level was praised by President of the Irish Mathamatical Society, Mr Maurice O' Rielly and Professor Samson Shatashvillim, Director of the Hamilton Mathematics Institute.
