RESIDENTS in the Carnamuggagh area have been asked to conserve water as much as possible as recent shortages play havoc with the supply.
The water supply was turned off three times in the last week causing great inconvienience to householders.
One irate customer contacted the Donegal News to complain of the numerous water cuts which have no prior warning.
"The water was turned off all day Friday, Saturday and again on Tuesday without warning. In between the water just trickles out of the tap. I've rang the council and they've simply said that there is a problem getting the supply through from the Knocknamona reservoir," she said.
"We had to buy 16 two litre bottles of water this week simply to flush the toilet. Our electric shower has blown because the water was cut off," she said.
"I had just shampooed my hair on Tuesday night when the water was cut off. It's so frustrating. If the water was going to be cut off I think the council should at least give some forewarning. The supply was turned on this morning after 9.30am when everybody had gone to school and work," she added.
The Parkview householder said problems with the supply had been ongoing since before Christmas.
Donegal County Council said they were aware of the problem with supply and apologised for any inconvenience caused and asked for the ongoing co-operation from those consumers worst affected.
REGRETTABLE
"Water Service in Donegal County Council are aware of interrupted water supply to consumers in the general Carnamuggagh area of Letterkenny in recent days in particular. Any inconvenience caused is regrettable and the council are continuing work aimed at restoring a full and uninterrupted service to all consumers as a priority,"said a council spokeswoman.
"Ongoing and dedicated maintenance work on the local network has brought improvements to the situation.
"However the demand in all areas throughout the Letterkenny supply remains high which is a concern. The council are concentrating efforts on water conservation measures to help redress the present consumption, including night checks followed by leakage detection and repair. In that regard the council would appeal to all consumers to conserve water as much as possible," she added.
Any suspected leaks on watermains or wastage should be reported to the local area office at 074-91-94257/94258.
