Over 15,000 homes across the north of the county from Falcarragh to Inishowen were left without power due to a fault in the Letterkenny sub-station last Tuesday morning.
The total power outage affected all households and businesses in Letterkenny and the southern part of Inishowen. A number of towns and villages in the surrounding areas were also affected and were still without power by Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the ESB confirmed that the fault occurred shortly after 9am but power was restored to the majority of houses within the hour.
The spokesperson commented: "Sometimes when you experience a power outage like this it causes individual problems in people's homes. ESB workers were dispatched immediately to restore full power to the areas affected by the outage as soon as possible."
He concluded: "The cause of the power outage is not known at the moment but is being investigated."
