CHRISTIAN Solidarity candidate Mary Doherty said she was pleased with the way she had polled in her first election. By standing as a candidate she had made her voice heard for Christian values.
Speaking just after the results of the Inishowen tally the Buncrana-based nurse said she was happy enough with her performance which at that stage showed her polling just over 300 first preferences. She finished up with a first preference vote of 339 and was eliminated after the first count.
"We did not have a long campaign like some of the other candidates so perhaps we didn't have enough time to get our message out there, but overall I'd have to say that I am pleased that people have heard the Christian message."
With the possibility of picking up extra votes in the two other constituencies to add to her tally the Christian Solidarity candidate said that her party would continue to play a role in politics in Donegal.
"It's been our first campaign and we're pleased to have made our mark now and we'll continue to raise the voice for Christian principles in Donegal," she concluded.
