Donegal U-14 girls in Ulster final

DONEGAL 5-17

TYRONE 2-09

REPORT BY PADDY COLL

Donegal Girls did themselves and the county proud on Saturday last in Convoy when they had an easy victory over Tyrone in the Ulster semi final and they now meet Monaghan in the final tomorrow in Emyvale, throw-in 2pm.

Niamh Mc Laughlin who was the Rolls Royce at the centre of all moves got the home side off with a point. This was a team effort with all six forwards and two centre field players getting on the score board. The scorers were: Marian Doherty (2-1), Geraldine Mc Laughlin (2-1), Ciara Grant (0-3), Niamh Mc Laughlin (0-3), Kelly Carr (0-2), Laura Molloy (0-1), Caoimhe Barrett (0-1), Tanya Kennedy (0-1) while the visitors reply was 1-02 and one of those points from a free. All Donegal scores came from play and the Donegal girls led 4-13 to 1-2 at the break.

HARD

Conditions were very hard on the players on the day with the extreme heat and humidity. In the second half the match was more even as a contest but the match had been put beyond the visitors.

Tyrone got more in the game scoring a goal and seven points with five of those from frees as the weather and the momentum of the first half took its toll on the home side.

Donegal scored a goal and four points in the second half courtesy of Marion Doherty (1-1) and Geraldine Mc Laughlin, Niamh Mc Laughlin, and Kelly Carr scoring a point each from play. Top scorer on the day for the winners was Marion Doherty with three goals.
