THE sudden death last Friday of Leo Gallagher in Letterkenny last Friday has evoked widespread sympathy where he was well-known and highly respected.
Mr Gallagher,(76), was a native of the Port Road and after working in London for many years he retired to Letterkenny and lived at 4 Muckish Avenue.
LONDON TRANSPORT
A former pupil of St Eunan's College, Letterkenny, he worked for a time with Donegal County Council after leaving school before he went to London where he worked in a clerical capacity for London Transport.
He was a keen sportsman in his youth and recognised widely as a good Gaelic football and soccer player.
He was a regular member of the Coroner's Inquest jury panel in Letterkenny.
From a well known family Mr Gallagher is survived by two brothers, Fr Billy, a Columban Father in Korea, and Phonsie, Carnamuggagh, a former Manager of the old Bacon Factory and a sister, Patricia (Patsy), New Line Road who was well known in town as the former Vice Principal of Loreto Convent.
Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Eunan's Cathedral, Letterkenny on Sunday at 12.30 p.m and burial took place afterwards in Conwal Cemetery.
