Milford join Moville in Division Three

Convoy's Chris Kyle looks for options during Saturday's game.

Milford 0-10

Convoy 0-07

MILFORD secured promotion to Division Three following this three point win against Convoy in O'Donnell Park on Saturday afternoon.

The victory, secured with three late points, also means that Milford now go on to play Moville in the Division Four League final.

Leading by two points at the interval (0-06 to 0-04), Milford appeared to hold all the aces but there inability to convert chances into scores almost cost them a place in the league final.

David Shovlin, who scored all but one of Convoy's points, opened the scoring from a placed ball on two minutes before Christopher Barrett equalised, also from a free, on 12 minutes.

Convoy restored their lead when John McMullan and Shovlin combined to create an opening for Laurence McMullan before two points in quick succession from Pauric Curley edged Milford in front.

While Shovlin restored parity on twenty minutes three unanswered scores from Chris Bradley, David Curley and Paul Shiels put Milford into the ascendancy as the game moved towards half-time.

In first half stoppage time Shovlin fired over another free to leave the half-time score: Milford 0-06, Convoy 0-04.

Convoy emerged with a new sense of purpose at the start of the second half and three points from Shovlin had them back in the lead eight minutes in before Bradley restored parity once more.

There followed twenty minutes of honest endeavour from both sides without an end result.

Indeed, it took substitute Dermot Friel to show how it was done – firing over Milford's lead point two minutes from time.

Further points from Christopher Barrett and Bradley in added time put a gloss on the scoreline but it mattered little to the Milford players and supporters who can look forward to Division Three football at Moyle View Park next year.

In the meantime, they've a League final to look forward to although they'll have to play a lot better than they did on Saturday if they are to overcome Moville.
