Author of political thriller for Donegal

The Eighth Plague, A Political Thriller by Kyle Fitzharris.

NEXT month a California based author is making his way to Ireland to promote his first novel, a very exciting political thriller that you won't be able to put down.

Kyle Fitzharris, originally from Chicago, has done it all from working as a journalist, to being recruited by the CIA and becoming a screenwriter based out in California.

Having left all this behind him, Kyle began to concentrate on his first passion - writing, turning his movie script, The Eighth Plague, into a novel.

The author still has very strong links to Hollywood, being close friends with many well-known Irish-American and up-and-coming Irish actors, such as Donegal natives Gavin Ó Fearragh from Gweedore and Rathmullan man Jason Matthewson who are both currently based in Tinseltown.

On his trip to Ireland, Fitzharris will also be stopping by in Donegal to catch up with friends and promote his new novel, The Eighth Plague.

The Eighth Plague

Author: Kyle C. Fitzharris

Publisher: iUniverse

Terry Riley is what you would a call in the writing world, a 'reluctant hero' and life has taken its toll on the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist both professionally and privately.

Once the pride of the Washington Post, Riley has fallen from grace with his editor who is on the verge of sending him packing and he faces tough competition young hot shot journalist Kate Walker, who keeps him on his toes but secretly has a soft spot for him.

The deeply troubled writer resorts to alcohol to drown his sorrows and as if his work problems aren't bad enough, his girlfriend leaves him and is served a court summons by his ex-wife.

But once a top journalist, always a top journalist. Riley has stepped onto someone's toes once too often and despite being nearly killed by hired hitmen, the journalist embarks on a story that will bring down his arch nemesis, Senator Dan Pritchard, once and for all.

Riley decides head to Mexico City, where he is still a wanted man, to cover the first International Summit on the Environment and where he plans to uncover the corruption behind the senator's schemes and this is where the action really begins.

The Eighth Plague is a wonderfully crafted story which not only introduces the main character Riley at the beginning, but simultaneously introduces other characters, in both Mexico and America, whose paths will all cross later on in the plot.

What keeps the reading very fresh and exciting is that the fact that Fitzharris has written the book in the third person and slowly introduces Riley telling his own story in the first person, switching between both throughout the story, reminiscent of the movie Carlito's Way.

There are a lot of exciting and very unexpected twists and turns in the plot and the writer uses his talent brilliantly painting a wonderful picture with words which really captures the reader's imagination.

This book is far from just a 'political thriller', The Eighth Plague is an action-packed movie in-the-making and once you have read Fitzharris' fantastic first novel, you will know why.
