Magee to compete in Beijing

BY HARRY WALSH

RAPHOE teenager Chloe Magee has earned a place at the Olympics in Beijing this summer. The young badminton starlet won the coveted spot as a result of her world singles ranking of 65 and her ranking of 25 in Europe.

Chloe, who is now living and training in Sweden, turned professional in September 2006, not long after completing her leaving certificate.

Speaking this week Chloe (19) said that one of her biggest ambitions, apart from making the top 50, was making it to the Olympics.

"I' wasn't sure if I would make it to Beijing but I definitely wanted to make it to the 2012 Olympics which are being held in London. It's great to get there ahead of schedule," she said.

"I got a call from Badminton Ireland on Monday and they told me that I had made the standard and just have to wait on official confirmation," she added.

One of eight children to Sammy and Audrey Magee, Chloe had always harboured ambitions to play badminton at the highest level.
