Well done from all the Finn Valley Carers group to Frances McLaughlin, Mulreany Terrace, for going on Highland Radio recently to help raise awareness of the ineffective HSE Services for people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland. Frances spoke about the fact that more people than ever before are dying of this terrible disease even though there is a special transplant centre in Dublin. Frances, (who has recently lost a daughter to the disease and whose son Brendan, who had a successful transplant is one of the longest survivors in the world) spoke from the heart about the urgent need for more transplant donors. You can become a transplant donor by completing and returning a donor card to Irish Kidney Association (1890 456556). Change to Planet Youth
The new name for the John Paul Youth Club is Planet Youth which was agreed by the Management Committee at a recent meeting. The decision to change the name has come about following a suggestion made by the funder's of the club's drop-in/information centre, which is to be opened at Dunfril House, Ballybofey as soon as possible. The funding also includes the appointment of a youth worker for the Finn Valley area, who is to be based at the centre. Planet Youth was the name of the John Paul Club's previous drop-in centre. The name was chosen as the result of a competition to pick a name for the centre run among club members some years ago. The Management Committee and Donegal Youth Service who are assisting the club in the setting up of the new centre therefore feel that it is a fitting name for the new venue. The new address for the club is: Planet Youth Dunfril House, Chestnut Rd, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal. The contact person for the new centre is Eugene Drumm.

The late Mrs. Maggie Doohan
The death of Mrs Maggie Doohan, Meenacladdy which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital on Sunday January 13th caused deep regret over a wide area. Aged 81 years, she was affectionately known locally as Maggie Jack. Predeceased by her husband, Neddie Pheadair Éamoinn, she was a kind and gentle woman, and she will be sadly missed. After leaving school she went to college and Training College to become a national school teacher. She never completed her final year at the Training College due to an onset of an illness. She did however spent many years as a substitute teacher and she covered for teachers taking time off due to illness or maternity leave in schools from Bunbeg to Gortahork. She was an highly intelligent person and she was highly respected by young and old alike. She was an outstanding amateur actor and was a member of Aisteoirí Ghaoth Dobhair. She took part in a number of productions with the aisteoirí down through the years. The very large and representative attendance at the removal of remains from hospital to her home, wake and funeral clearly indicated the high esteem in which Maggie was held. Her funeral took place to Cnoc Fola cemetery on Wednesday of last week following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Colmcille Church, Cnoc Fola. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Donnchadh Ó Baoill, C.C., Cnoc Fola and concelebrants were: Fr.Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and Fr. Seán Ó Gallchóir, P.P., Gort a' Choirce. The lessons were read by, Niamh Níc Pháidín (grand-niece) and Mary Doohan (grand-niece). The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Claire Doohan (God child), and by Marian, Eileen and Gráinne Ferry (all close family friends). The soloist was Mary Catterson. Following the Mass she was laid to rest in a plot alongside her husband Neddie. She is survived by one brother, Manus Doohan (Renfrewshire, Scotland), nephews, nieces, family circle, relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. Ar Dheis Dé gor raibh a anam dilis.
