This week Siobhán tells Péigí all about how she got on at a wedding at the weekend. (Pronunciation guide in italics with stressed syllables in CAPITALS.) Ar aghaidh linn! (Off we go!)

Péigí: Dia dhuit a Shiobhán, cad é mar atá tú?

(G-ah GITCH a HUE-in, CAD J marra TAW TOO?)

(Hello Siobhán, how are you?)

Siobhán:Go maith go raibh maith agat, agus tú féin a Phéigí?

(Guh MOY Gurrow MOY ogat, ogus TOO HAYNE a FEGGY?)

(Well, thank-you, and yourself Péigí?)

Péigí: Tá mise i gceart. Bhuel cad é mar a bhí an bhainis dé Sathairn?

(TAW missha eh GART. Well CAD J marra V an WANNISH J SA-hurn?)

(I'm rightly. Well, how was the wedding on Saturday?)

Siobhán: Bhí sé go hiontach. Bhí an pósadh in Inis Ceithleann ar dtús agus bhí an bhainis ina dhiaidh sa Slieve Russell. Bhí aimsir galánta acu, bhí sé fuar, ach geal agus tirim.

(V shay guh HAIN-ta. V an PAWS-soo in Inish KEH-lan air DOOSE ogus V an WANNISH ina YEAH sa Slieve Russell. V I'm-shire gal-ON-ta ocu, V shay FOORE ah GYALL ogua CHIRIM.)

(It was great. The wedding was in Enniskillen first and the Wedding Reception afterwards was in the Slieve Russell. They had lovely weather, it was cold, but bright and dry.)

Péigí: Ó nach raibh an t-ádh orthu! Bhuel an raibh faisean maith ann? Cuir síos ar an ghúna bainise.

(Och na ROE an TAW or-who! Well an ROE fashion MOY un? Cur she-oss air an goona BANNISHA.)

(Oh, weren't they lucky! Well was there good fashion there? What was the wedding dress like?)

Siobhán: Bhí faisean an-mhaith ann. Bhí cuma álainn ar an bhrídeach, bhí a gúna galánta, bhí sonra a gúna dochreidte agus bhí dáth na gCailíní coimhdeachta sárálainn, bhí a ngúnaí gorm.

(V fashion an-WOY un. V cumma AW-lean air an VREE-ja, V a goona gal-ON-ta, V sunra a goona DO-hredge-cha ogus V DA na GALL-eenie KIVE-jock-ta SAR-AW-lean, V a NOONIE gurrum.)

(There was very good fashion there. The Bride was lovely, her gress was beautiful, the detail of her dress was incredible and the colour of the Bridesmaids was gorgeous, their dresses were blue.)

Péigí: Ó go han-deas. Cad é a chuir tú ort féin?

(Och guh HAN-JASS. CAD J a HER TOO ort HAYNE?)

(Oh very nice. What did you put on yourself?)

Siobhán: Chaith mé gúna nua dubh agus bán a cheannaigh mé ar na mallaibh agus chuaigh mé chuig an ghruagaire sa mhaidin agus cuireadh smideadh orm chomh maith.

(HOY may goona NOO-a DU ogus BAWN a heYANNY may air na MALLIVE ogus WHO-ie may hig an ROO-ig-GIRRA sa WODGE-gin ogus CUR-roo SMIDGE-you urrum HO-MOY.)

(I wore a new black and white dress that I bought recently and I went to the Hairdresser in the morning and I had my make-up done as well.)

Péigí: Tá an ceart agatsa a Shiobhán. Cad é mar a bhí an béile san óstán?

(TAW an CART ogat-sa a HUE-in. CAD J marra V an BELL-a san OSS-ton?)

(You're just right Siobhán. How was the meal in the hotel?)

Siobhán: Bhí an bia iontach blasta ar fad. Mealbhacán ar dtús agus anraith don Réamhchúrsa. Torcaí is Liamhás nó Mairteoil rósta don Phríomhchúrsa, Baked Alaska don mhilseog agus tae nó caifé le píosa císte bainise le críochniú. Ní raibh mé ábalta a bhogadh ina dhiaidh sin uilig!

(V an BE-a IAN-ta BLASTA air FAD. MALL-walk-on air DOOSE ogus AN-REE done RAVE-HOORSA. TOR-key iss LEA-WOSS knaw MARCH-chole ROSSTA done FRAVE-HOORSA. Baked Alaska done VIL-shog ogus tae knaw café le PEE-sa KEESH-cha BANNISHA le KREE-new. Knee ROE may AW-ballta a WUG-goo ina YEAH shin ILLIG!!)

(The food was very tasty altogether. Melon first and Soup for Starters. Turkey and Ham or Roast Beef for the Main Course, Baked Alaska for Dessert and tea or coffee with a piece of Wedding Cake to finish. I wasn't able to move after all that!!)

Péigí: Iontach maith. An raibh an siamsaíocht go maith?

(IAN-ta MOY. An ROE an SHAME-SEA-ocked guh MOY?)

(Very good. Was the entertainment good?)

Siobhán: Bhí sé sármhaith. Bhí muid ag damhsa an oíche ar fad. Bhí am ardóigh againn.

(V shay SAR-WOY. V midge egg DOW-sa an E-ha air FAD. V am air DOUGH-ie ogeen.)

(It was brilliant altogether. We were dancing the whole night. We had a great time.)

Péigí: Ar tháinig sibh abhaile nó ar fhan sibh?

(Air HON-nig shiv a-WOIL-ya knaw air ANN shiv?)

(Did you come home or did you stay?)

Siobhán: D'fhan muid san óstán, bhí sé galánta ar fad. Chuaigh mé chuig an linn snámha maidin dé Domhnaigh, bhí sé go hiontach.

(DAN midge san OSS-ton, V shay GAL-on-ta air FAD. WHO-ey may hig an LYNN SNAUVE-va MODGE-gin J DOUGH-knee, V shay guh HAIN-ta.)

(We stayed in the hotel, it was lovely altogether. I went to the Swimming Pool in Sunday morning, it was great.)

Péigí: Beidh bainis againne i dTír Chonaill an mhí seo chugainn, tá súil agam go mbeidh aimsir mhaith ann an lá sin fosta.

(We have a wedding in Donegal next month, I hope that we'll have good weather that day too.)
