Police enquiries are continuing into an incident early on Monday morning when a trailer load of wood shavings which was parked in a lay-by on the main Enniskillen-Irvinestown went on fire, completely engulfing the load and destroying the trailer bed and the wooden frame, tyres and fittings.
A PSNI spokeswoman confirmed that Police received a report shortly before 2.50am yesterday, 5th June that the trailer belonging to a blue Scania lorry was on fire at a lay-by on the Irvinestown Road.
"The trailer and its contents were completely destroyed in the blaze. Part of the carriageway was closed to traffic for a short time to facilitate the clear up of debris", she added.
In a separate incident, a lorry overturned near a bad bend on the Ederney-Castlederg road at the week-end, and ended up on its side in a field where a man on a tractor was cutting grass . There was no report of anyone having been injured.
However, a local man told the "Herald that the vehicle was heading towards Ederney and that on this particular stretch of road, from the accident spot all the way into Ederney, 'it is unbelievable the amount of accidents that have happened'.
"You're talking from Threemilehouse into the village:
I would say between 50-60 accidents a year, every week. There are insignificant signs on the road whereas if there were Accident Blackspot signs, it would help.
"This lorry was the second vehicle that has gone over the ditch at the same spot and, further down that road, there was a fellow killed at a bad bend.
Then, as you come towards Ederney, there's a notorious bend at the top of a hill, and I would say there are three accidents a month there.
"Thankfully, there was no one hurt in this latest accident, but it could have been fatal for the man on the tractor in the field'.
