Enniskillen girl Holly Nixon, a pupil at the Collegiate is one of the young artists whose work is being exhibited at Fermanagh County Museum until July 15th.
Learning from Art is a travelling exhibition of 39 works created by young people from Ireland, both north and south.
It will be opened by Noelle Mcalinden, creative and expressive officer with the Western Education and Library Board at the County Museum on Thursday evening.
Holly's painting, created when she was just nine years of age, was inspired by 'In the West' by Paul Henry. Holly spoke about her involvement in the exhibition saying:
"The painting was fun although getting the shape and size of the mountains was a little hard my friend Kate and my teacher
helped me with the tricky bits."
This exhibition is the culmination of a project created by the National Gallery of Ireland which sought to encourage young people to be curious and creative
by using the national collection as a source of inspiration, to learn something about art and art history while exploring their own creative process.
Raymond Keaveney, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland speaking about the exhibition said:
"For this project, Learning from Art, the Gallery has employed the talents of young people from all around Ireland, North and South,
inviting them to engage with the collection and respond in the discipline of their choice, in images, prose or poetry, and in so doing
illustrate how the Great Masters can still move and inspire us all."
Sarah McHugh, Manager of Museum Services at Fermanagh County Museum said:
"It is such a pleasure to display an art exhibition created by young people and I am particularly delighted that a local Fermanagh
school child has a piece included in the exhibition. Holly Nixon, created her painting a couple of years ago when she was just
nine years of age, and it is heartening to see the creativity of young people being encouraged in this way.
The opening of this exhibition coincides with the launch of our new Visual Art Resource Pack which has been created to assist young people to engage with Fermanagh County Museum's art collection. So I hope that everyone can find something in this exhibition or the museum's own collections to inspire their own creativity."
