The Cathal Buí Festival will take place in Blacklion, Co. Cavan, from Wednesday 27th June 2007 until Monday 2nd July 2007. A comprehensive Programme of events, suitable for all the family, will include Traditional and Classical Music, Storytelling, Film, and Poetry readings, Archaeological Field Trips, Nature Walks, a Car Treasure Hunt and various Art Workshops. In addition art exhibitions will run for the weekend and a local website will be launched.
On Wednesday 27th June the festival opens with a film which will be shown in the Leitrim Mobile Cinema at 8:30pm. This will be followed by Music and Song with John Joe Gaffney in the MacNean Resource Centre, Blacklion. On Thursday 28th June 07, Virtuous Austin McManus, Steve Wickham with Café Boulevard Orchestra and Cathal Bui Youth Orchestra will present a 'night of Classical Music'.
On Friday 29th June 07, will kick start with a Children's Magic Show between 6:00pm 7:00pm in the Market House Blacklion. This will be followed by a Slide Show on "Birds and Nature in Co. Cavan' by Ornithologist John Lovatt. Traditional Singing and Storytelling will then take place with local Artistes and friends at10:00pm in Market House, Blacklion. Traditional Irish Music can also be heard in Frank Eddie's pub from 10:30pm onwards. On Saturday 30th June 2007, A Nature walk with John Matthews will take place at 11:30am meeting point is the Market House, Blacklion. A Children's Art Workshop will then take place from 2:00pm 4:00pm in the MacNean Resource Centre, Blacklion. An Art Workshop with Eddie McNulty will take place at the Belcoo Community Centre from 2:00pm 4:00pm. In the evening Traditional Music and Song with Luke McGinley and Friends can be seen in the market House, Blacklion from 9:00pm. This will be followed by Poetry Readings with John O' Rourke, PJ Kennedy and Aoife O' Reilly. Barney's Pub will also host a music session from 10:00pm onwards.
On Sunday 1st July 2007, an Archaeology Field Trip with Seamus O hUltachain and Gaby Burns will commence from the Market House, Blacklion at 1:30pm or at Burren Forest Gate at 1:45pm. A Car Treasure Hunt will take place at 3pm at the Fair Green, Blacklion. An interdenominational Prayer Service followed by musical entertainment with Belcoo traditional Group, Vincent Keaney, and Shannallen Choir will take place at the MacNean Park, Blacklion from 6:15pm.
An evening not to be missed is the play "The Rare Oul' Times" by the award winning Nomadic theatre Company featuring Ken McElroy as Patrick Kavanagh and Oliver Moore as Brendan Behan. Fitzpatrick's Piano Bar will host music by Sean Corrigan from 9:00pm.
On Monday 2nd July 2007, the festival will finish with a Monster Raffle, Car Treasure Hunt Prize-Giving and Music by Sean Corrigan in the Bush Bar Blacklion from 10:00pm.
