As part of its overall "Visual Imagery" Project, the purpose of which is to brand the area, portray it as "a nice place to live" and to encourage tourists to visit, Clones Erne east Partnership have placed in all, 27 beautifully crafted stone chairs, each marked with the local place-name, and each containing a timecapsule, in towns and villages throughout the area.
It was left to INTERREG 111A and the three constituent Councils to run a Project entitled, "Laying the Foundations", embracing 12 small projects. They include - Youth, I.T. Training for Businesses, Social History Collective, Water Based Tourism, Networking for Businesses, a website, a quarterly Newsletter and a Visual Imagery Project.
Each chair includes a time capsule, containing a high capacity computer other items, essays by schoolchildren entitled, 'A day in my life, 2007'.
In addition to the stories written by the school children, the Partnership invited local people to contribute items, such as old or recent photographs, news articles, books about their area or any other document of interest, provided that it can be scanned onto the memory stick.
The coordinates of each of the 27 time capsules will be registered on the Global Positioning System (GPS), a widely used satellite navigation system.
"Visitors to the area or indeed local people can then follow the "CEEP Chair Trail", the Partnership spokesman explained. " It is hoped that when the time capsules are opened, the contents will give a snapshot of life in each town/village in the Clones and Erne East area in mid 2007.
