Cian through to next round of talent competition

Ederney schoolboy, Cian Mc Alone has recently found out from executives at RTE that he has won a place in the next round of RTE's talent contest for children between the ages of 9 and 11. Cian a pupil of the O'Brien school of drama attended auditions in Galway in June and judges were impressed with his recital of a comedy poem and performance of Tom Sawyer. Speaking recently Siobhan O'Brien said how proud she was that Cian had got through to the final 36 from the hundreds of original entries that RTE had received.

Cian has been attending drama classes with Mrs O'Brien for 6 years and Siobhan adds that Cian along with a number of other local pupils have great potential for future stardom. Siobhan reflected that Cian was not only a great ambassador for her drama school but also for the local area. This is the first time that Pettigo and indeed the O Brien drama school has been represented in such a competition and Siobhan hopes that some other pupils may have similar fortune in other up and coming talent competitions. Mrs O'Brien stated that given the wealth of talent competitions it was great that those from a drama background could now gain some recognition as it is more common to see music and singing centred talent shows.

The Mc Alone family themselves are very excited that Cian is getting the chance to showcase his talent on a much wider scale and are looking forward to making the trip to the RTE studios in Donnybrook Dublin over the next few weeks. Cian is no stranger to the local stage having taken part in numerous Borderline Players productions and Siobhan confirmed that Cian would indeed have a role in the group's next production which will be a children's production entitled "The Whisperers." Siobhan continued to say that the next few months would be some of the busiest ever for the group with the eagerly awaited adult comedy taking to the stage further into the autumn while both productions will take place in association with preparations for Project America. Siobhan confirmed that after a short break the group are going back to their roots and hopes that the upcoming productions will be more spectacular than ever before.

Siobhan would like to invite anyone wishing to avail of the training courses currently being organised by the management committee of Borderline Players to get in touch with herself on 07800647138 or Donal Monaghan on 07729368534 or by emailing the group at borderlineplayers@hotmail.com. The group are offering training courses in sound and lighting, costume design, set design and construction and make-up for the stage. These courses are open to anyone and given the limited places will be offered on a first come first serve basis only. Siobhan hopes that these courses will begin in the next few weeks so booking is essential.
