Michael Shannon Commemoration Concert

On this Thursday 26th July, a traditional concert is being organised by the Erne Islands Marching Band and will be held in the Donn Carragh Hotel Lisnaskea.

The concert is being presented by the Lisnaskea Crossroads Ceili Group, as a tribute to the late Michael Shannon of Maguiresbridge, who was a member of the group and a very much loved story teller and entertainer.

Over the years, especially since his retirement as a lorry driver with the Quinn Group, 'Mickey', as he was known to his friends, travelled the country to entertain at concerts, music sessions and festivals, and never failed to lift the spirits of those who listened to his stories and his infectious humour. A native of Derrylin and a member of a family that had strong connection with Irish culture, he was always fully involved in the social life of his adopted village of Maguiresbridge.

Guest artist at the concert will be his cousin and name sake, Co. Sligo fiddle player, Mick Shannon. There will be a fully supporting programme of music, singing, dancing and storytelling. Supper will be served and the concert is timed to start at 8.30 p.m.
