It is one of the iconic images of the 80's. The winged stainless steel car that was manufactured in Belfast was immortalised on the silver screen in three blockbuster movies.
When Michael J Fox cranked his time travelling DeLorean up to 88.8 miles per hour in the Back to the Future Movies he could transport himself back or forward in time. By the second movie the DeLorean was flying.
And it seems that over the past week the DeLorean has hit the headlines again with the news that it may go back into production again.
So all in all it was a good week to get eleven of the distinctive cars up to Tullycastle.
In our picture we can see the unique gull-winged doors that are just one of the features that mark the DeLorean out from the crowd.
Saturday's gathering came about when David Bailey, a local businessman invited his friend Mervyn Richardson along for the day. Mervyn is a member of a DeLorean motor club and who himself owns three of the cars invited along other owners, who make an annual journey every August bank holiday. This year their journey brought them to Tully Castle. The DeLoreans proved the highlight of the annual non profit making show by the Church Hill District Community Development and were a hit with all the guests.
"It was a great success. Eleven cars arrived and it was a great days fun. They really are unique," Mr Bailey told 'the Herald.
But for now 'back to the cars' (sorry for the terrible pun). John DeLorean, who originally set up the car making plant in Belfast hit rocky times in 1982 and production ceased with the loss of hundreds of jobs. But there have been recent utterings that there is definitely a market for the hand made production of up to 25 cars per year.
At the moment the USA seems like the front runner to make the new DeLorean's but there is hope that the original home of the DeLorean car will be given the task of breathing new life into one of the most remarkable cars ever built.
