Enniskillen Red Cross Group in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) have recently set up a community first responder scheme in the Irvinestown area to help respond to suspected heart attack '999' calls.
The aim of this scheme is to try to get medical help and an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) to the patient as quickly as possible. The quicker the response, the better the outcome is, as the first few minutes are crucial.
Irvinestown has been chosen because the Red Cross Group have a number of volunteers who live and work within the area. However, they are constantly looking for extra volunteers to help with this scheme.
"The more volunteers we have, the better cover we can provide 24 hours a day", said its spokesman.
