A 59-year-old Clones man faces a £150 fine and a 12 month driving disqualification after he was convicted of drink driving.
The Resident Magistrate at Fermanagh Magistrate's Court, Liam McNally, heard how at approximately 1.30am on Sunday, 29th July, Patrick Bradley from Aghafin, Clones, was stopped and spoken to by police who detected a strong smell of intoxicating liquor off his breath.
Bradley told the officers that he had drank two pints before driving.
He was subsequently arrested for driving with excess alcohol. He was conveyed to Enniskillen Police Station where two evidential breath tests showed 58 micrograms of alcohol in 100 micrograms of breath, that being 19 in excess of the prescribed limit.
Defending, Vincent Maguire told the Court that his client had been socialising with his wife and had had a couple of drinks, but didn't think he was over the limit. He submitted that Bradley fully co-operated with police and asked the Court to consider his early plea. He said that he had been driving for 40 years and held a Republic of Ireland driving licence.
Mr McNally acknowledged that the defendant had a long, clear record that spanned 40 years and one that was without blemish until now. He accepted that the reading was relatively low in the circumstances, and he said that he would also consider his early guilty plea.
For the offence, he imposed a £150 fine and a 12 month driving disqualification.
