Get in on the act

People from all over the country are being urged to join in October's breast cancer awareness month by holding events in their communities to raise awareness and money for the cancer information charity Cancerbackup.

There are a number of ways that you could take part including: - Big Pink Cake Sales - baking and selling cakes with pink icing for £1 a slice.

Wearing pink to work or school - asking everyone to donate a pound to take part, or face a £2 penalty if they don't.

Pink goods jumble sales - getting rid of unwanted pink things and selling them for charity.

You don't need to organise anything, you could get sponsorship to dye your hair or beards pink for a week, giving up chocolate for the whole month or even do a pink parachute jump.

Think Pink! money raised for Cancerbackup will help to fund the charity's freephone helpline providing advice and support to people affected by. Or to keep Cancerbackup's comprehensive website containing 4,500 pages of information on all types of cancer up to date. Money raised could also fund distribution of thousands of booklets and fact sheets explaining in detail all aspects of dealing with having cancer, from treatment options and local support to the emotional side of having cancer and receiving treatment.

Sarah Moses, Think Pink! co-ordinator at Cancerbackup said: "So many people all over the country are coming up with fantastic new ideas to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raising money in novel ways. The main thing is that it should be fun as well as fundraising. Cancerbackup, and all the people the charity helps are hugely thankful for all the fundraising efforts going on and hope that many more people join in during the month of October."

For more information, call the think pink! hotline on 020 7920 7252 or email community@cancerbackup.org "
