Woods sets the world alight with wool

BY AILEEN MURPHY

Belleek artist Tara Moran Woods is enthusiastic about taking her first tentative steps into the world of art with her first solo exhibition in the County.

On display at the Higher Bridges Gallery at the Clinton Centre, Tara's exhibition is entitled 'Interior Spaces' and runs until 24 January.

Viewers to the gallery will see that the 25-year-old's work is quite contemporary, as Tara explains her materials: "My work is mainly installation and I rely a lot on using wool to create my large 3D crochet displays."

Tara describes her work as a mixture of experimental and ephemeral art. She uses photography as a core part of her practice as a mode for documenting the ephemeral nature of her work. Tara has created a Three Dimensional drawing for this solo exhibition using crochet to direct the viewer and manipulate spatial area through the reshaping and restructuring of it's content and diametrical layout, consequently prompting the viewer to consider and question ones surroundings and experiences in daily life. Tara was born in London in 1982 and moved to Fermanagh with her family in 1993.

In 2006 she completed her Degree in Fine Art in Sligo. Woods studied ceramics, print, digital media, drawing, painting and Art History.

However, her final years' work at college consisted primarily of installation art, whereby Tara used wool as a drawing material to manipulate and change the environment or room.
