Last Thursday saw the first of Enniskillen photographic society's monthly competitions in 2007. This months title was a "Themed" print and involved having no less than 4 prints on the same mount all depicting a specific theme. In the colour competition Enniskillen lady Mavis Dean took first place well ahead of others with accumulating over half of the votes. Her prints were on the subject of flowers. These were close up macro prints all displayed perfectly while presenting a vast array of colour all on one mount. She demonstrated how something so simple can turn out to be a dramatic print. David Robertson, David Yeo, Chris Walpole, Terry McCartney, and Denzil Glenn featured among other winners. Titles ranged from Holidays, People, Seasons, and Sunsets.
The Black and White competition had a good entry also. David Robertson claimed first place with his winning print of "Umbrellas"! Deservedly so as David had obviously put an enormous amount of preparation into this print as he had an amazing 10 prints on the one mount and also cuts the mounts himself. David has been proving to the club that he can be quite a dark horse when it comes to competitions as here is another uncomplicated title with an obvious success! Mavis Dean featured among the top places again with a print titled "Let the dance begin" of a Tin musician. Terry McCartney took a completely different theme of faces - several different images of the one face! Robert O'Brien had an excellent print with images of Rome.
Two members of Enniskillen Photographic Society have recently gained distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society. Robert O'Brien from Omagh and Teresa McMahon from Roslea have both been awarded the Licentiate for their panels of ten prints that they submitted to the Federation.
Teresa is a relative newcomer to photography, although she has always been interested. She particularly loves photographing children and people, so her husband Conor and two children, Matthew and Ben are frequently asked to pose. Teresa says "I got real satisfaction from being awarded a distinction it was great to get something for all my efforts!" She now hopes to go on to apply for a higher distinction in due course. "I really enjoy the meetings of the Enniskillen Photographic Society," she said, "There are great photographic opportunities as well as being social events. We have expert photographers visiting the Club, so we all benefit from their experience."
