Enniskillen Campus, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) hosted a very successful open day recently.

Prospective students travelled from all over Ireland, Britain and continental Europe to view the excellent equine facilities. Head of Campus, Seamus McAlinney, welcomed everybody to the Campus before handing over to his colleague Gayle O'Connor, who gave an overview of the courses and facilities at the campus.

The guests also had an opportunity to view the facilities, which incorporates a racing unit, breeding unit and an equitation unit.

The main campus in Enniskillen is situated within a 136 hectare rural estate located on the outskirts of the town in the beautiful Fermanagh Lakeland area. This site is home to the Racing Yard and Breeding Unit. The Equitation facilities are based at Necarne Castle in Irvinestown, approximately eight miles from the main campus. The Necarne Estate extends to 160 hectares and facilities include stabling, indoor arena, outdoor arenas and an International 3-day event course as well as a Point to Point course.

Enniskillen Campus currently provides the widest range of courses in Equine Studies in Ireland, offering courses from First Diploma Level through to Degree Level.

In addition to completing their formal academic studies students on these programmes have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, which compliment formal course work, throughout the academic year.

These activities include the Campus Racing Club, the Show Jumping Club and the Equine Business Club. Students also have the opportunity to obtain their Amateur jockey licence, British Horse Society exams, First Aid exams and Health and Safety certificates. All of which gives the Enniskillen Campus students a first class experience both from an academic and practical perspective.
