Enniskillen score big win

BY DAMIAN CAMPBELL

Enniskillen Gaels had relatively little trouble in collecting the Feile na nÓg crown on Saturday when their physically stronger side dominated the contest with Derrygonnelly. In the end there was to be sizeable margin separating the teams.

The Gaels were especially strong in defence in the opening half and they were to reach the break having held the opposition scoreless. Matters did improve somewhat for Derrygonnelly on the resumption and they were to pick up some scores but there was never any suggestion of them being capable of pegging back the leaders.

For Derrygonnelly there were to be tenacious displays delivered by Richard Thompson and James Jones in the back line with Leigh Jones doing good work in the middle of the park and overall the outgunned team did produce a plucky performance but they were to be on the back foot for practically all of the game.

For Enniskillen, goalkeeper Ryan McDonagh looked a solid and dependable last line of defence and full back Tomas McCaffery turned in an excellent hour. In their half back line John Maguire featured and he also continued to impress later in the game when he had to switch into the half forward line.

Others to do well for the winners were corner forward Patrick Reihill who picked up a string of scores with Niall McKeever and Niall Shannon also figuring prominently in the middle third of the field.

Patrick Reihill and Andrew Sheridan were among the leading marksmen in an Enniskillen attack which was served up an ample supply of possession and by the time that the interval was reached the contest was effectively decided.

Derrygonnelly did make some inroads into the Enniskillen lead on the restart, they had a goal each from Gavin Dolan and Gary McKenna but it was still a match that was being dominated by the superior Enniskillen team and scores continued to flow in at the other end of the park.
