AUGHDRUMSEE ............0-7
DERRYLIN ....................5-8
This was to be, in the end a comprehensive sixteen point away victory for Derrylin, but the game was to be a shade more competitive than that hefty winning margin would suggest.
Aughdrumsee had been well in the game all through the first half and reached the break only four points adrift. But there was to be a catastrophic restart for Aughdrumsee as they conceded two goals and from there to the finish it was a case of increasing Derrylin control.
Defensively Aughdrumsee were in the end found to be wanting as the five goals conceded would indicate.
First of the five came on fifteen minutes, Cahir Shannon firing home for Derrylin and this score undid most of the early good work which Aughdrumsee had been able to put in.
Aughdrumsee had had first half points from Niall Beggan and Ryan Boyle but that first goal unhinged them and worse was to follow on the resumption as their back division fell apart.
Goal two for Derrylin was a highly fortunate one, a long distance placed kick from Justin Gilheaney allowed to sail all the way to the net and Mark Murphy quickly added a third for the O'Connell's.
Those two scores put the result beyond all doubt and the remainder of the contest was a matter of running down the clock.
Aughdrumsee were to have consolation points from Eugene Kearins and Niall Beggan but the confidence had seeped out of their play and Derrylin were to finish with another scoring burst.
A well worked movement paved the way for a Donal McAvinue goal and Mark Murphy rounded off a fine personal display with his second goal of the afternoon, punching home from close in.
Among the points scorers for Derrylin were Donal McAvinue, Mark Leavy and Justin Gilheaney in a contest which was to become a very easy one for them in the second half.
Defensively Derrylin were not to be particularly troubled especially in the second half. Miceal Shannon was a very consistent back for them and others to do well included Paul McManus in the middle of the park and Justin Gilheaney in the half forward line.
As for Aughdrumsee, Fergal Boyle worked hard to close down the gaps in their defensive set up and Mark Leonard had his moments in midfield, with Niall Beggan best in the attack
