Staff continues to be valued at Lilley's Centra

Lilley's Centra has achieved its Investors in People (IIP) accreditation for the second time.

In so doing they've become the first Centra Store in Northern Ireland to achieve the revised IiP standard. It focuses on ongoing development and the involvement of employees at all levels in the decision-making process.

The Investors in People standard is one of the most respected awards for quality that any organisation can achieve, and is designed to advance an organisation's performance through its people.

Una Lilley, owner Centra Drumlyon said: "I was delighted for the team because they have each taken on new mantles of responsibility within the store as well as mini improvement projects aimed at improving efficiencies and service levels within the business.

"Giving people ownership and responsibility at the relevant levels within this store is more stimulating for employees because they get to make decisions and see their effect immediately. This is motivational and it encourages a high level of interest in their job which can only benefit our customers and our business.'

In the beginning, Una recalled, it was daunting for the staff, but each of them had risen to the challenge and they were delivering great results in a very challenging time for independent retailers locally.

"Investing in your people is in my opinion a non-negotiable contributor to business success. The fact that our employees find 'Lilley's Centra' a great place to work is reflected within the store through a low level of staff turnover, high levels of customer service and operational standards which exceed the industry norm."

"The aim is always to deliver a better service for our customers. That is what investing in people is all about. That is why we spend so much money on it and that is why we take it so seriously.'

Brian Cassidy, Regional Manager, Musgrave Retail Partners congratulated Una and her team on their commitment and dedication.

"Everyone", he aid, " has a role to play in producing a quality service. An organisation will only be successful when it recognises the importance of its people and enhances their job satisfaction while extending their skills base.

"When employees are happy, that transfers quickly to customers.

"Achieving IIP accreditation once again is a fantastic accolade and it reflects the hard work and efforts of everyone in Lilley's Centra."
