Planning

The review document on 'PPS 14' will be up for public scrutiny and comment in April.

Readers don't have to go into Donegal to see how uncontrolled housing development can spoil the countryside.

No one wants to see a repeat of that in Fermanagh.

On the other hand, farming families especially have a raw deal. The farm unit had to be viable, but what farm is viable today? Is it not sufficient that a younger family member simply wants to live near his parent(s)?

There are parts of Fermanagh which have benefited from 'crossroads' housing development. At the same time, there are vast expanses that are littered with homes in bad need of replacement. Far too many have been officially 'abandoned', putting them beyond any hope of re-use.

An information meeting has been arranged for the Manor House Hotel, Killadeas next Wednesday 20 February which concerned stakeholders and organisations can attend.

It is up to people to make their views known for, at the end of the day, what people want is a policy that is applied fairly, with the proper balance between over-development and genuine need.
