Enniskillen woman leads the way in dealing with the past

Enniskillen woman Ruth Moore, a former community development manager with Fermanagh District Council, is leading an important project for Healing Through Remembering (HTR), the cross-community organisation which focuses on ways of dealing with the past conflict in and about Northern Ireland.

Ms Moore, who is from Drumawill in Enniskillen, is co-ordinating an outreach and training programme on the legacy of the conflict.

"Each day", she stated, " provides evidence that many people have a need and desire to deal with the past. The programme is based on Healing Through Remembering's work in helping people face Its work has included considering ideas, such as a living memorial museum, a day of reflection, acknowledgement, truth recovery, storytelling and commemoration.

Kate Turner, the co-ordinator of Healing Through Remembering explained that the programme was not geared at seeking or reaching consensus.

"It offers various choices to groups or individuals who do not feel part of the current debate, or who want to take a fresh look at how best to deal with the past."

Ms Moore has been working in community development for 15 years, driving forward community-led change on projects, including urban regeneration, dialogue and relationship-building.

She was a student at Enniskillen Collegiate Grammar School. Her degrees include a BA (Hons) in social work and a Master's in Equality Studies from University College, Dublin.
